VERBIO Bitterfeld location

VERBIO's first biodiesel plant was built in October 2001 at Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park in the region of Saxony-Anhalt.

With an initial production capacity of 150,000 tonnes, when it was built it was already the largest biodiesel plant in Europe. And over the following years, its production capacity and efficiency have been increased. The process for the transesterification of vegetable oil was developed by Dr. Georg Pollert, a co-founder of VERBIO, especially for the company. The process is distinguished by its high energy efficiency with minimal use of consumables.

At the same plant there are produced high-quality pharma glycerine and sterols which are used as raw materials by pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a second facility at the Bitterfeld location took place in May 2024. From 2026, the new Ethenolysis plant will produce bio-based specialty chemicals for the production of lubricants, detergents and specialty plastics. In this way, we make a decisive contribution to a sustainable chemical industry.
