VERBIO Zörbig GmbH

When VERBIO Zörbig went into operation in September 2004 in Zörbig (Saxony-Anhalt), it was the first plant in Germany to produce bioethanol for use in fuel. It was developed with the company's own expertise and continues to set the standard in cost-effective fuel production making efficient use of raw materials. The modern, energy-efficient plant produces ethanol with a purity exceeding 99.8%.

In 2010, the world's first bio-refinery was built at Zörbig. The process developed by VERBIO using the whole crop in a closed loop enables us to create bioethanol from the raw materials, after which biomethane is generated from the residue. The by-products are feed and high quality organic fertilizers, which are recycled back to agriculture.

The existing biorefinery at the Zörbig site is currently being expanded to include a production facility for the production of high-quality grain-based proteins. These proteins are used in animal nutrition. In the future, use in the food industry is also possible.
